This happens!

So this happened. One man making fun of the fact, and other men and women indulging in the fun. While we are not sure if any of them felt that something is wrong here at the back of their mind.

Sad truth, but let's face it. How many of us, men and women even care about changing the scenario?

Most of us, as engineers, will continue to

1. Get placed in TCS, Infosys.
2. Will change company, get a better salary, promotion or the choice of domain.
3. A percent of us will go for a Masters degree.
4. Eventually, most of us will get married. Then the work force changes.

  • The wife would quit her job because the husband or the family doesn't want her to work.
  • The wife would quit her job because the she has to move to another city. They might end up getting a job in the other city, but the wife leaves the job.
  • The wife would quit her job because the kid needs attention.
  • The wife would quit her job because she cannot strike the work-life balance.
  • The wife would quit her job because she needs to lead the family.
  • The wife won't opt for promotion because she cannot have rigorous work hours or she cannot relocate.
  • The wife being demeaned for being financially independent. Demeaned further if she earns more than the husband.

It's 2016, but most of us have examples of people who fit into these situations. If not, then you haven't looked around enough.

What are most of us doing about it apart from making jokes on it? Neither ladies nor the gentlemen are helping to change the scenario.

The women and men both, continue to accept the fact that only women are responsible for a successful household.

The reality is that girls are acing their classes in High School, Engineering, Medicine, Law and any other industry. Later, they are opting for easy work hours or opting out of the jobs completely to run the household.

Equality is not just limited to women becoming Engineers, Doctors, Lawyers, Entrepreneurs but they staying in the business just like men do, even after having children. And this becomes possible when men participate in the household as much as women**

I do not deny the fact that men today have started to be participative in the household, but we are far from gender equilibrium. For that to happen, men have to take up responsibilities and women have to delegate responsibilities.

It's as basic for men to babysit, cook, wash, clean as it is for women. Along with it, it is also basic for women to go for business trips, work late, fix a bulb or tap. It might seem odd in the beginning, but remember it was also odd when women joined the work force, or in fact when they started voting.

PS - Women, please don't ask for equality on basis of reservations. And men, please check this - www.heforshe.org
